Scrapbooks, 1895-1907.

These scrapbooks contain clippings, programs, ribbons, photographic prints, invitations, menus, and other ephemera relevant to the primary activities of his student days -- gymnastics, cycling, and ice hockey. Of special interest is an invitation to "Bicycle Wedding" held in 1896. The scrapbooks also cover years beyond his student life and reflect social engagements such as weddings, theatre, membership at the Belmont Cricket Club, the birth of his first son, and vacations at Thousand Islands in New York.

J. Myles Gibbons was born in Scranton, Pa. He attended the University of Pennsylvania graduating in 1899 with a medical degree and in 1904 with a law degree. As a student at Pennsylvania, Gibbons served as manager of the Gymnastics team performing with the team in the area of wire walking, bar bell juggling, and trick cycling.
